Spring and summer in Seattle mean a profusion of rhododendrons in all shades of pink, purple, red and white. The Coast Rhododendron is Washington’s state flower. These mammoth “bushes”, which may be 20-30 feet tall, literally explode with color this time of year. Each variety has distinctive flower patterns which make them as stunning up close as from a distance. This white “rhodie” with passionate pink gracing each flower center, was one of my favorites while strolling through Volunteer Park.
